This very special tool was inspired by my wonderful father Bruce Breckenridge when teaching me how to build fences on his thousand acre farm called Mt. Ulamambri at Coonabarabran, NSW. Australia.

I spent three great weeks on a working holiday on my dad's farm during the Christmas of 2001-2. While there dad taught me how to build fences to better manage his goats and cattle.

It was there that I was introduced to the magical gripple fence system. A gripple is a wonderful little piece of ingenuity that allows you to easily tension fence wire so that your fence does not droop in the middle. It's a small device about 3 centimeters long with 2 holes at either end that allows the fence wire to only go through it one way in both directions

Sound confusing, well it's not. You simply insert the fence wire into one of the gripple's two holes, wrap it around the fence pole, then bring it back to the gripple and insert the end of the wire into the gripple's other hole. See the diagram above.

So the wire can only go one direction because the gripple's built-in locking system locks the wire in one direction so that it cannot pull out backwards. Just like the pockets in our blood veins in our bodies will only allow the blood to travel in one direction.

Once you take the wire around the fence pole and inserted the end of the wire back into the gripple's other hole, you use a special tool called the gripple tool to apply tension to the wire by forcing and pulling it through the gripple.

Because the gripple prevents the wire from sliding backwards the wire becomes very tight between the 2 main fence posts, and presto you have a great looking super practical fence to better manage your stock.

While helping my dad one day using this wonderful gripple, the light bulb suddenly went on in my head. Yes the gripple is the perfect success metaphor to help me to better explain what WEPINET is to the children of the world.
